Demonstrating your company’s corporate responsibility can look different for every business, but the benefits of doing so go well beyond helping others. Doing any or all of these four suggestions can help your employees, community, and business.

1. Providing flexibility for employees
Allowing employees to have flexible work schedules by providing benefits such as occasional work-from-home days — and other flexible policies that make leave possible — are fantastic ways to alleviate stress for employees and those around them. Doing so is an overall investment in the health and happiness of your employees without hurting your company’s productivity.

2. Encouraging volunteer days
Encouraging employees to engage with local charities through company-sponsored volunteer days can greatly impact the community. Days off to serve can help the neighborhood organizations while boosting employee morale. Spotlighting employees who help those in need is also a positive way to encourage good deeds.

3. Taking responsibility for your company’s environmental impact
Being willing to contribute to your community by taking small steps to reduce your company’s environmental impact by switching to green energy sources or limiting the use of plastic utensils by providing employees with mugs can have long-term positive impacts.

4. Networking with local companies
Any entrepreneur can appreciate the importance of networking. Forming connections with other local businesses can make your community stronger while helping your company’s namesake. Joining your local chamber of commerce, or any local networking organization, can be a good first step in the right direction.

We believe treating your employees, the environment, and the communities you serve and work in with excellence is a demonstration of faith. It’s a way of reflecting God’s loving character while fulfilling your purpose. As a small business owner, establishing ethical policies, flexible schedules, and sustainable practices are simple ways to ensure employees feel respected and heard in the workplace while making a positive impact in the community.
